Land Acknowledgement

Snow Lion Meditation Community’s Toronto sangha gathers within the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, on lands covered by the Toronto Purchase Treaty, No. 13. We also recognize these lands as the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunee peoples and as home today to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

Our Grey–Bruce sangha gathers in the Territory of the Anishinabek Nation, the People of the Three Fires, known as the Ojibway, Odawa, and Pottawatomie Nations. We give thanks to the Chippewas of Saugeen First Nation and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, together known as the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, as the traditional keepers of these lands and waters.

As a Buddhist sangha, our practice invites us to recognize our interdependence and to meet the conditions that sustain our lives with gratitude, compassion, and responsibility. We offer this acknowledgement in respect for the Indigenous peoples who have cared for the lands and waters of Turtle Island from time immemorial and who continue to care for them today. We understand this acknowledgement as more than a statement: it calls us to learn truthfully about the land and its history, to respect Indigenous rights and living cultures, and to contribute to relationships grounded in justice and reconciliation. May we live in harmony and peace with one another and with the countless beings who call these lands and waters home.
